Course overview

Over the course of 6 weeks, you will make five glass articles in a variety of styles. The course will cover the basic theory to successfully prepare and fire kiln formed glass. You will learn how to cut and assemble glass sheet, rod and frit (glass particles) ready for firing into fused, functional, art pieces. You will learn the different levels of fusing including tack fuse, contour fuse and full fuse and the associated slumping (shaping) pieces into moulds. As well as the main articles made each week we will make and set aside small, pre fused pieces for combination on a multi coloured medium sized plate made in the final week. You will understand the essentials of firing schedules and how to setup a kiln to fire the glass. Each week the pieces will be fired between classes. Two pieces build on work completed over a series of weeks.

The articles include:

Two small bowls using contrasting design methods. Various colours to select from.

An incense burner tray with a coloured design of your choosing.

A painting with coloured glass frit (particles). You can “paint” any subject you wish using coloured glass particles of various sizes.

A 16 cm multi coloured plate using a multi coloured and multi style combination.

All materials provided.

WHAT TO WEAR:
